Seattle Slew
Seattle Slew, the 1977 Triple Crown Champion and Horse of the Year, was the most complete Thoroughbred to ever live.
As a competitor, he was the fastest of the fast. Seattle Slew had blinding, front-running speed, yet also won America's toughest race, the Belmont Stakes, at a mile-and-a-half. He swept thru the 1977 Triple Crown while undefeated; the only horse to accomplish such a feat.
Seattle Slew concluded his career with two victories over the 1978 Triple Crown champion, Affirmed. It was the only time in history in which two Triple Crown winners faced off. In retirement, Slew sired an astonishing 102 stakes winners. His progeny amassed over $75 million in purse earnings and his son, Swale, won the 1984 Kentucky Derby. Seattle Slew was among the greatest on the track and THE greatest in the breeding shed.
